JUNETEENTH

We are pleased to welcome Frederick Prejean, Chairman of Move the Mindset, this Sunday morning.  Fred will share with us the history and significance of Juneteenth and its importance for all people.

The very first celebration of Juneteenth occurred on June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger and over 2,000 federal troops arrived at Galveston Island to take possession of the state and enforce the two-year-old Emancipation Proclamation. The slaves celebrated the day they learned they were free.
A lifelong resident of Lafayette, Fred Prejean received a B.S. in Accounting from Southern University. As a citizen activist and leader Fred has been involved in community affairs for more than fifty years and is a trained community organizer.
Fred served as President of a local research and consulting firm, and as under-secretary at the LA Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries. He is chairman of Move the Mindset, a grassroots organization that seeks to engage the Lafayette community in moving beyond a divisive past and toward a more unified and brighter future by engaging in honest ongoing communication between people of different races. UULALA supports Move the Mindset's efforts.
