November 22, 2023
Our theme for November has been Interdependence.
A compelling symbol of human interdependence is the Welcome Table, which comes from an African-American spiritual by an anonymous author, who was likely enslaved. The earliest published version appeared in 1874. The Welcome Table represents a gathering place of hospitality where all are welcome, where all are accepted and supported. It symbolizes inclusivity, diversity, resilience, right relationship, and the ongoing struggle for a more just and equitable world for everyone. The Welcome Table encourages a sense of belonging, cooperation, and mutual support among individuals and communities, all aspects of interdependence.
This Sunday’s sermon is Accidental Intersections by Rev. Tim Kutzmark, UU Fresno
In these times of challenge, the greatest sustainer for people on the margins of society is to understand and be conscious of the ties that bind us to one another. The greatest temptations are to disengage, objectify, or reinvest in hatred and anger. For the marginalized, there is a greater call to remember where we have been and how we got here, and to cast a vision going forward. What is it that sustains folks at these intersections of identity?

Being a BEACON OF LOVE on Thanksgiving Day!
One way to show gratitude for our many blessings is to give back to the community. For the last 10 years, LOVE OF PEOPLE has been providing hundreds of delicious Thanksgiving meals from Opelousas to Lafayette, New Iberia and points in between. Last year an amazing 3000 plates were distributed!
Please learn about the Community Thanksgiving presented by LOVE OF PEOPLE, and be sure to view the video. https://www.loveofpeople.org/community-thanksgiving
Community Thanksgiving | Love of People Thanksgiving is about gathering together with friends and family and sharing a meal together. We use this time to express gratitude for the things in life worth being thankful for. We take that mindset and bring it to underserved communities in need of a warm meal on Thanksgiving. www.loveofpeople.org |

The Inn Ministry: UUFoL continues its support of the generous effort to feed the hungry and homeless. Especially needed are donations of fresh produce, especially fruit, such as apples and oranges, but vegetables, also. They continue to need powdered milk and protein. Cash donations are always needed for bus passes. Please bring donations of fresh produce on Nov. 12 & 26. Also, with winter approaching, items such as coats, jackets, socks, gloves and old sleeping bags for the homeless would be greatly appreciated.
