Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further notice.
Our theme for August is Activism.
“Activism is not limited to the grand
gestures or the large-scale movements;
it begins with the small acts of kindness
and compassion we show to one
another every day. It is about
recognizing that our individual actions,
when combined, can create a ripple
effect that can bring about real and
lasting change. Never underestimate the
power of your voice, your actions, and
your ability to inspire others.” Malala
Yousafzai
(Yousafzai rose to international prominence after
she was shot in the head as a teenager on her way
home from school in Pakistan in 2012 by the
Taliban, who targeted her for speaking out about the
importance of education for girls.)
Sunday, August 13th: Hope, Courage,
Action
In these difficult times, it can be easy to
feel despair, to feel overwhelmed by the
pain of the world. However, all we have
to do is look to our own principles and
history to know how to find hope, have
courage and take action together. Nell
Hahn will also be visiting us to tell us
about the Cuban Water Purification
project we are contributing items to this
Sunday (see the announcement below.)
Please visit us either in person at 1119
Johnston St. or on Zoom:
tinyurl.com/zoomuufol or via the link at
uulala.org. We now have Religious
Education for pre-teen children. We visit
with coffee and snacks from 10:30-11
am. The service runs from 11 am until
12 noon. After the service we will lunch
at Olive Garden, 5743 Johnson St. Free
lunch coupons on the Chalice Table.
Everyone is invited!

(last) Sunday, August 6th: Why You
Should NOT Be A Unitarian
Universalist
Rev. Dr. Daniel Kanter of First Unitarian
Church of Dallas discusses various
aspects of the church's history, theology,
and commitment to justice. He
encourages people to examine their
beliefs about the environment, race, and
gender. He warns about being limited by
religion. He proposes five reasons to not
be a Unitarian Universalist in a
humorous way.

Living Waters for the World - Cuba
Our main social concerns project this month
is to join with First Presbyterian Church in
contributing items to Living Waters for the
World outreach project for their sister church,
Iglesia Presbiteriana-Reformada Resurrección
de Sabanilla in Juan G. Gomez, Matanzas
Province, Cuba.
Living Waters for the World trains, equips and
supports volunteers in forming global,
clean-water mission partnerships. These
partnerships empower international
communities to install and sustain water
purification systems and health education
programs.
In 2019, FPC worked alongside their fellow
‘Presbiterianas’ to build a purification system
to allow their church to distribute water for
free to their small town; the only clean water
source in more than ten miles in any
direction.
You may also make a monetary donation in
support of this ministry by clicking here. Write
"Living Waters for the World Cuba" in the
message.
Nell Hahn will be giving a short presentation
on this project during Sunday’s service.
Please sign the 2023 Membership Book
on the table at the church entrance.
Thanks!
