Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further notice.
Our theme for June is Ritual
making meaning of experience.
“Rituals are those repeated actions
done again and again in the interest of
things like focus, grounding, tradition,
cultural symbolism, predictable life
rhythms, and feeling a part of
something.” Craig Kelley
Sunday June 4th Service: How to
Integrate Unitarian Universalism into
Family Life and Ritual
The sermon titled “How to Integrate
Unitarian Universalism into Family Life
and Ritual” by Rev. Christina
Leone-Tracy from Fox Valley Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship is about how to
practice Unitarian Universalism at home
and in daily life. The sermon explains
that Unitarian Universalism is not a
creedal religion, but a covenantal one,
meaning that it is based on shared
values and principles rather than
specific beliefs or doctrines. The sermon
offers some examples of possible rituals
that Unitarian Universalists can adopt or
adapt, such as lighting a chalice,
celebrating the seasons, honoring
ancestors, reading stories, meditating,
praying, singing, volunteering, or joining
social justice movements. The sermon
emphasizes that rituals should be
authentic, intentional, and flexible, and
that they should serve the purpose of
connecting with oneself, with others,
and with the sacred. The sermon
concludes by encouraging Unitarian
Universalists to explore their own
spirituality and to find ways to integrate
it into their family life and daily routine.

Sunday May 28th Service:
Reconciliation to Reparations
Rev. Bryan Plude talks about the
problem of systemic racism in the
United States and how it affects various
aspects of life for people of color, such
as education, health, farming, and
voting. He also discusses the role of
Unitarian Universalists in
acknowledging, repenting, and making
reparations for systemic racism within
their denomination and society. He
argues that reconciliation requires taking
sin seriously and dismantling racist
systems of inequality. He gives
examples of how to educate oneself, be
an ally, and support organizations that
are working for racial justice.
