Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further notice.
Our theme for May is Reconciliation.
Reconciliation is a process of restoring
relationships between individuals or
groups who have been estranged or in
conflict with each other. It involves
acknowledging past wrongs and working
towards forgiveness and healing. In the
context of Unitarian Universalism,
reconciliation is often seen as a way to
promote social justice and address
issues of oppression and inequality.

Sunday May 21st Service: A ministry
of Reconciliation
Rev. Jessica Star Rockers
award-winning sermon on reconciliation
begins with contrasting a Catholic
reconciliation prayer with the way
Unitarian Universalists view
reconciliation. We acknowledge our
failings but we practice reconciliation
among ourselves and within ourselves.
Rather than call others out we call them
in. We mess up, but we can begin again
in love. You will never stop being
inherently worthy. The Prodigal Son
story from the Christian Bible is a good
example of this. One does not have to
ask for forgiveness to be forgiven. Love
does not judge. You cannot be wasteful
with love because there is no end to it.

Sunday May 14th Service: #MeToo
Mothers Day
Roberta Madden recalls her childhood
and adult experiences as a female both
bad and good. She cites jury
descrimination, sexual harassment, laws
that discriminate against women, and
prisons that punish women more
severely than men in some states. At
the time of this video, white women
earned 80 cents on the dollar (women of
color earned less) compared to men. On
the other hand, women are increasingly
pushing back against inequality policies
and some states have ratified the Equal
Rights Amendment. More women are
running for office. In 1989 she ran for
the Louisiana Legislature and got the
support of unions, although she lost the
election. She ends her presentation
encouraging mothers and daughters to
rise up and for men to use their male
privilege to support women for equality
and respect.
