Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further notice.
Our theme for May is Reconciliation.
Reconciliation is a process of restoring
relationships between individuals or
groups who have been estranged or in
conflict with each other. It involves
acknowledging past wrongs and working
towards forgiveness and healing. In the
context of Unitarian Universalism,
reconciliation is often seen as a way to
promote social justice and address
issues of oppression and inequality.

Sunday April 30th Service: Flower
Communion
Bring a flower this Sunday for our
Flower Communion!
Our Flower Communion, or Flower
Ceremony is a celebration of our
commitment to each other where each
member brings a flower to the service to
be placed in a large vase during the
service. This act signifies that it is by
your own free will you joined with the
others in the congregation. The vase is
a symbol of the united church
fellowship. After the service, each
member takes a flower from the vase
other than the one they brought.
The significance of the Flower
Communion is as no two flowers are
alike, so no two people are alike, yet
each has a contribution to make.
Together, the different flowers make a
beautiful bouquet. Our common bouquet
would not be the same without the
unique addition of each individual flower,
and thus it is with our church community,
it would not be the same without each
and every one of us. Thus, this is a
statement of our community. By
exchanging flowers, we show our
willingness to walk together in our
Search for truth, disregarding all that
might divide us. Each person takes
home a flower brought by someone else
- thus symbolizing our shared
celebration in community. This
communion of sharing is essential to a
free people of a free religion.

Last Sunday’s Service Recap
Rev. Meg Barnhouse of First UU Austin
speaks on how we process grief and
can adapt to our new reality with each
other's help. Anne Lamont writes “You
will lose someone you can’t live
without, and your heart will be badly
broken, and the bad news is that you
never completely get over the loss of
your beloved. But this is also the good
news. They live forever in your broken
heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you
come through. It’s like having a broken
leg that never heals perfectly—that still
hurts when the weather gets cold, but
you learn to dance with the limp.”
