Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further notice.
Our theme for April is Grief.
The reality of grief is far different from
what others see from the outside. There
is pain in this world that you can't be
cheered out of. You don't need
solutions. You don't need to move on
from your grief. You need someone to
see your grief, to acknowledge it. You
need someone to hold your hands while
you stand there in blinking horror,
staring at the hole that was your life.
Some things cannot be fixed. They can
only be carried. Survival in grief, even
eventually building a new life alongside
grief, comes with the willingness to bear
witness, both to yourself and to the
others who find themselves inside this
life they didn’t see coming. Together, we
create real hope for ourselves and for
one another. We need each other to
survive. –Megan Devine
Sunday April 30th Service
Rev. Meg Barnhouse of First UU Austin
speaks on how we process grief and
can adapt to our new reality with each
other's help. Anne Lamont writes “You
will lose someone you can’t live
without, and your heart will be badly
broken, and the bad news is that you
never completely get over the loss of
your beloved. But this is also the good
news. They live forever in your broken
heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you
come through. It’s like having a broken
leg that never heals perfectly—that still
hurts when the weather gets cold, but
you learn to dance with the limp.”
