Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and
supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further
notice.
Our theme for April is Grief.
The reality of grief is far
different from what others see
from the outside. There is
pain in this world that you
can't be cheered out of. You
don't need solutions. You
don't need to move on from
your grief. You need someone
to see your grief, to
acknowledge it. You need
someone to hold your hands
while you stand there in
blinking horror, staring at the
hole that was your life. Some
things cannot be fixed. They
can only be carried. Survival
in grief, even eventually
building a new life alongside
grief, comes with the
willingness to bear witness,
both to yourself and to the
others who find themselves
inside this life they didn’t see
coming. Together, we create
real hope for ourselves and
for one another. We need
each other to survive. –Megan

Sunday April 16th Service
This service features a
recorded video sermon by
Amy McKlindon of UUCP
(Phoenix.) The title is a quote
from Susan David, Ph.D.
Elizabeth Gilbert says this of
grief and love: "Grief does not
obey your plans or your
wishes. Grief will do whatever
it wants to you, whenever it
wants to. In that regard, grief
has a lot in common with
love." While there is no magic
formula for healing from grief,
our capacity to carry our grief
will grow and change. But all
that we've experienced
remains a part of us forever.
In fact, we may find that it
becomes part of our
super-power -- a well of
empathy that we can draw on
as we work to support those
around us, and a source of
strenth as we work to build a
more just world -- and we
know that the only cure for
love is more of it.

Last Sunday’s Service
Recap
This month's theme of grief is
a difficult topic that is often
associated with loss of a
loved one. Many of us have
experienced this loss. But with
loss there can be recovery or
adaptation to continue on with
our lives. One method of
dealing with grief is through
music -- performing,
composing or just by listening
to it.
I found John-Michael
"Jamoof" Field's music on
YouTube and was
immediately impressed with
the thoughtful lyrics and
delightful finger-picked
melodies of his songs. Of his
music posted there he states:
"...writing music is therapy,
and a celebration of this
incredibly beautiful world we
live in, and the power of love."
After reading many comments
of his listeners, I realized that
much of his music brought
folks suffering from grief or
depression some comfort and
connection -- music for grief
therapy! So we have invited
Jamoof to visit us on Zoom
this Easter Sunday to give a
presentation during the
sermon portion of the service.
This will be good!
