Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and
supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further
notice.
Our theme for April is Grief.
The reality of grief is far
different from what others see
from the outside. There is
pain in this world that you
can't be cheered out of. You
don't need solutions. You
don't need to move on from
your grief. You need someone
to see your grief, to
acknowledge it. You need
someone to hold your hands
while you stand there in
blinking horror, staring at the
hole that was your life. Some
things cannot be fixed. They
can only be carried. Survival
in grief, even eventually
building a new life alongside
grief, comes with the
willingness to bear witness,
both to yourself and to the
others who find themselves
inside this life they didn’t see
coming. Together, we create
real hope for ourselves and
for one another. We need
each other to survive.

Sunday, April 9th Service
This month's theme of grief is
a difficult topic that is often
associated with loss of a
loved one. Many of us have
experienced this loss. But with
loss there can be recovery or
adaptation to continue on with
our lives. One method of
dealing with grief is through
music -- performing,
composing or just by listening
to it.
I found John-Michael
"Jamoof" Field's music on
YouTube and was
immediately impressed with
the thoughtful lyrics and
delightful finger-picked
melodies of his songs. Of his
music posted there he states:
"...writing music is therapy,
and a celebration of this
incredibly beautiful world we
live in, and the power of love."
After reading many comments
of his listeners, I realized that
much of his music brought
folks suffering from grief or
depression some comfort and
connection -- music for grief
therapy! So we have invited
Jamoof to visit us on Zoom
this Easter Sunday to give a
presentation during the
sermon portion of the service.
This will be good!

Recap
In this video sermon by Rev.
Beth Dana, we may speculate
many scenarios of what
happens after we die, but we
will not find a capital 'T' truth
about death and the afterlife
in Unitarian Universalism. We
*can* find a love that sustains
us in our Sanctuaries, in our
lives and beyond this life
because love never dies.
Love transforms and connects
us as we enter this life as we
make our way through it and
as we leave it. As UU's we
have many beliefs about the
afterlife and we affirm the
importance of finding meaning
and purpose not only in the
hope of something coming
after death but in this life that
we are living now. We must
bear witness to the goodness
and the value of this life
whatever comes after death.
We love and are loved. We
discern our gifts and purpose.
We do good work in the world.
We move from fear to
possibility. If we do these
things before we die we will
have caught glimpses of the
goodness and holiness of
whatever comes after death.
So trust your experiences.
Trust those glimpses. Bear
witness to them and find hope
in them for you and for all
whom you love.
