Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and
supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further
notice.
Our theme for March is
Trust.
Trust is fundamental to a good
life. It is the key to faith, an
element of covenant, and the
basis of promise-making and
promise-keeping. It is to trust
others and to be trustworthy.
Trust is built on truth and
destroyed by lies. Trust
always involves risk since it
can be broken. Restoring trust
after a betrayal is especially
difficult and can impair the
willingness to trust.
Responding to betrayal can
involve healing and
forgiveness, but not forgetting.
Sunday, March 12th Service
In this video presentation,
feminist pioneer Gloria
Steinem speaks on the
importance of talking circles to
improve communication, the
feminist movement -- a global
movement that focuses on the
idea of freedom, common
sense and companionship.
Although having to overcome
a fear of public speaking, she
has had a great impact on the
movement to advance
women's rights by bringing the
conversation worldwide.

Recap:
‘The Wages Of Trust Is Life’
Rev. Joshua Pawelek asks
the question: In whom or what
do you place your trust? As
Unitarian Universalists, we
typically place our trust in
each other more than a
creator or deity typical of
doctrinal faiths. On the one
hand, the Christian Bible
asserts that if you live a sinful
life the result will be death. If
you put faith in Jesus Christ
the result will be eternal life.
This service's sermon
contrasts this with the idea
that while UU's don't promise
eternal life, they offer a life
worth living with trust in each
other. Thus the wages of Trust
is Life. The early Christian
teachings focused on Jesus'
emphasis on ethical human
behavior and living a good life
of 'works' rather than with
doctrines of 'faith' -- taking
actions to lessen or prevent
someone's suffering vs.
'thoughts and prayers' comes
to mind. 'Deeds not creeds' is
a good shorthand expression
for this. The 'glue' that holds
us together as UU's are our
Seven Principles that state
how we intend to relate to
each other, trusting that each
of us is seeking relationships
that have dignity, justice,
compassion, a sense of
interconnection, and love at
their core. These relationships
here and now, in this life, in
this world, matter immensely.
We need one another.
