Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and
supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further
notice.
Our theme for January is
Wintering.
Wintering is the process of
navigating winter, a season
that is, in many ways, a time
of regeneration. Of course,
there is the external season,
but there is an internal season
that also requires wintering
skills. For some, winter
pushes them outdoors, while
it pulls others indoors. For
both, regeneration is an
essential process whether by
the exhilaration of downhill
skiing or the contentment of
drinking hot cocoa in front of a
fireplace. (Source: January

Service:
Our monthly theme of
'Wintering' emphasizes rest
and renewal. In that spirit we
examine how to improve our
knowledge about rest as it
affects our quality of life.
Saundar Dalton-Smith's TEDx
talk 'The real reason why we
are tired and what to do about
it' explains the importance of
identifying and meeting the
needs of our different types of
rest. Many of us suffer from a
rest deficit because we don't
understand the power of rest.
Sleep and rest are not the
same thing. Sleep alone can
never restore us to the point
where we feel rested. Sleep is
only one of the seven types of
rest: mental, spiritual,
emotional, social, sensory,
creative and physical.
Conquering your rest deficit
begins with identifying where
most of your energy is being
expended. Mental rest can be
improved by taking
pre-planned breaks each day
to quiet your mind. Sensory
rest can be improved by
techniques that reduce
sensory input during your day.
Creative rest can be improved
with time spent in inspirational
surroundings. Emotional and
social rest can be improved
by surrounding yourself with
positive supportive people
with emphasis on face-to-face
relationships. Spiritual rest
can be improved by engaging
yourself with something
greater than yourself each
day. Namaste!

Service Recap:
Kenneth ‘Ken’ Broussard
Returns!
Ken Broussard led a
wonderful guided meditation
where he asked us to
meditate on compassion,
reducing pain and suffering,
and peace for ourselves and
others. Ken is a proponent of
and practitioner of meditation
techniques as we ‘chill’ in this
crazy South Louisiana month
of alternating warm and
freezing temperatures.
