Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Lafayette
Greetings fellow UUs and
supporters!
We are meeting IN PERSON
and on Zoom until further notice.
Our theme for January is
Wintering.
Wintering is the process of
navigating winter, a season that
is, in many ways, a time of
regeneration. Of course, there is
the external season, but there is
an internal season that also
requires wintering skills. For
some, winter pushes them
outdoors, while it pulls others
indoors. For both, regeneration is
an essential process whether by
the exhilaration of downhill skiing
or the contentment of drinking hot
cocoa in front of a fireplace.

Sunday, January 8th Service:
Rev. Brian J. Kiely recalls as a
child something magical in the
winter snow as it turned lawns
and pavements white, and how
quiet it all got. Things slowed
down. But our culture is geared
for fast and frequent. With
Christmas having become more
about retail than reflection, and
the demands for gatherings of all
kinds, the pressure is not to do
the less that winter suggests, but
more. Rev. Kiely suggests that
now is the time for rest -- caring
for your own soul and the souls of
those around you.

Service Recap:
‘Repeat the Sounding Joy’
Rev. Pamela Wat's trip with a
skeptical niece to see a 'mall
Santa' shows that 'it makes a
difference what we believe about
one another.' Isaiah from the Old
testament told of the coming of a
prince of peace and upholder of
justice. Christians believe Jesus
was that person. Christians and
Unitarians may have different
interpretations of Jesus' role but
both have something to offer us
in the way of joy. The message of
Jesus is one to elevate all of
humanity to the very best and
brightest that we as people are
capable of -- to remind us of the
hope that says that we can be the
world we wish to be -- to save us
with that pointing towards peace
that breaks down walls between
people and between nations. We
are defined by our response to
the question: 'Will you on this day
open your heart to love and will
you use your passionate love to
give give birth to joy for all
people? May this be the year that
you radiate the same joy and
respect that the world has come
to expect from our greatest
heroes and saints.
