Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!

We are meeting IN PERSON and on  Zoom until further notice.

Our theme for June is 'Working Toward a Better Future'. The world -- as wonderful as relationships and the natural world are -- is in trouble. Protecting our planet calls for justice work -- the call to preserve and repair  the world. The foundation for this was done by the Rev. Richard Gilbert in which he explored the connections between spirituality and social action. This call for us to do justice work is termed 'A Prophetic Imperative.'

Ola Prejean and Dr. Francesco Crocco will be presenting this Sunday on the present and future projects of our partner justice organization Move the Mindset (MTM). This organization and it's allies were instrumental in the removal of the Confederate statue in downtown Lafayette, Louisiana and are dedicated to the education and promotion of the true history of our community.

Last Sunday's service recap:
Standing on the Side of Love is an interfaith public advocacy campaign inspired by the 2008 shooting at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church -- targeted because we support the LGBTQ community. Launched in 2009, the campaign's goal is to challenge exclusion, oppression and violence against free expression of sexual orientation, gender identity, immigration satus, race, religion or any other identity. This is its story...presented by Kiera Frey.

An message from Dr. Francesco Crocco and invitation to attend the MTM Juneteenth celebration:
'There are many attacks happening on our community, both locally and nationally, as those who are fearful of progress and change seek to move the mindset back to a time when many were not free. For instance, our Public Library is attempting to censor and suppress books that represent the voices and stories of marginalized groups in our community. MTM, working in coalition with other progressive organizations, has issued a public statement in opposition to this policy of censorship. Together, we can overcome the forces of reaction and continue to make progress toward racial and social justice in our community.'

Touchstones Journal for June
Note: We have chosen this month's theme to be the more relatable 'Working for a Better Future' rather than the suggested theme 'A Prophetic Imperative' but they both focus on justice work.
