Greetings fellow UUs and supporters! We are meeting IN PERSON and on Zoom until further notice. Our theme for March is Balance. Life depends on balance. It is the principle of yin and yang. Dark and light, hot and cold, wet and dry. Sometimes balance is easy, like being on a seesaw. At other times, it is a high-wire act with all the risk that entails when things have gone dangerously out of balance. Repair of the world sometimes involves the work to restore balance, especially when dis-ease is rampant. --- Sunday, March 27th Service: This Sunday's service will include a video excerpt from the film 'The Third Harmony: Nonviolence and the New Story of Human Nature.' This film suggests that contrary to the "old story", scarcity, competition and violence are not inevitable. Rather, we can adopt a "new story" where the universe is conscious and purposeful; we are spiritual beings, and cooperation and collaboration are our natural way of interacting. Please visit us either in person at 1119 Johnston St. or on Zoom [tinyurl.com/zoomuulala or via the link at uulala.org]. We visit with coffee and snacks from 10:30-11 am. The service runs from 11 am until 12 noon. Service outline Service slides Sermon video After the service we pick a restaurant for lunch and fellowship. Everyone is invited. If you plan on attending either on Zoom or in person please mark yourself attending in the Facebook Event (optional) --- Last Sunday's service recap: The Equinox is a time of balance in the earth’s year for both the Spring (Vernal) and Autumnal Equinoxes as the nights and days are of equal length. We see evidence of balance in stacked rock sculptures and are seeking balance in our lives between things like talking and listening, and taking care of ourselves and taking care of others. Balance can be temporary so we need a tool to regain it and recenter ourselves. Reverend Meg Barnhouse observes in her sermon 'BALANCE' that HOPE is the very tool we need for the job and suggests other methods as well to bring balance into our lives. Thanks to Kiera Frey who led the service and read the sermon for us. Thanks to our musicians and readers also! --- View past Services slides (with links to sermon texts or videos when available) :-) --- ANNOUNCEMENTS --- EVENTS CALENDAR --- Touchstones Journal for March --- |
