UU Fellowship of Lafayette

Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!

We are meeting IN PERSON and on  Zoom until further notice.

Our theme for March is Balance. Life depends on balance. It is the principle of yin and yang. Dark and light, hot and cold, wet and dry. Sometimes balance is easy, like being on a seesaw. At other times, it is a high-wire act with all the risk that entails when things have gone dangerously out of balance. Repair of the world sometimes involves the work to restore balance, especially when dis-ease is rampant.

Sunday, March 6th Service:
affirmative action.png

UU Rev. Dee Graham's sermon, read by Chris Menard, lends insight into the importance of Affirmative Action to level the playing field -- so to speak -- for those who have not had the same opportunities to succeed. In addition, Chris will read a short story from Emma Thompson about what it is like to be in a household with her young adult daughter and older mother. It is interesting and heart-warming. March 8th is International Women's Day.

Please visit us either in person [1119 Johnston St.], via this Zoom link or via the link at uulala.org.

We visit with coffee and snacks from 10:30-11 am. The service runs from 11 am until 12 noon.

After the service we pick a restaurant for lunch and fellowship. Everyone is invited.
If you will be visiting us and are on Facebook, please mark yourself going in the event

Last Sunday's (Feb 27th) service recap:
ULL Retired Professor and Dean Dr. Phoebe Hayes was our guest speaker. Phoebe's education began in the segregated public schools of Iberia Parish. She  degreed in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Xavier U and USL (now ULL) and obtained a masters in Communicative Disorders from USL, followed by a PHD in Communications Sciences and Disorders from LSU. While exploring her family history she discovered evidence of suppression of black history achievements by racist leaders of the day. One of her examples of suppression involved a publication of doctors in New Iberia -- of which no Black doctors were included. Articles were published in the local paper that cast the Black community in a bad light with false information as well. We wished the presentation could have gone on longer. Service outline  Service Slides
