UU Fellowship of Lafayette

Greetings fellow UUs and supporters!

We are meeting IN PERSON and on  Zoom until further notice.

Our theme for December services is Healing. Rachel Remen's book, Kitchen Table Wisdom: Stories That Heal, has as its premise that we can become each other’s healers. Remen states, “We thought we could cure everything, but it turns out that we can only cure a small amount of human suffering. The rest of it needs to be healed, and that’s different.” As she notes, “Healing is not a work of perfection or expertise. We are all healers. We heal with our wholeness, our humanity, all of our life experience, even our wounds. Our own wounds make us gentle with the wounds of others and able to trust the mystery of healing, not as a theory but from lived experience. Our vulnerability connects us to the vulnerability in others in compassionate and loving ways.”

Let's all strive to use our powers of spiritual healing to benefit both ourselves and others.

Sunday, December 12th Service:

Our service theme this Sunday is on Reiki -- a healing technique -- practiced by Katie Miller, C.C.T.

'Reiki' translated means 'universal life energy'. It is this energy that those such as our guest, Katie Miller, are trained to channel. Applying Reiki techniques by means of touch to their patients, natural healing processes are activated that can restore physical and emotional well-being. Visit us this Sunday and learn more about this fascinating practice.

Fellowship begins at 10:30 am and service from 11-12 noon. All are welcome to join us at one of the local restaurants afterward. Please let us know if you have special dietary needs -- we want to include you! If you are unable to attend the service in person you may view it over Zoom with this link ( https://zoom.us/j/4061020232?pwd=RW5NUFNIOXFnOENRT0FEdm1Vd09iQT09 ) or at uulala.org , and may also view the interactive slides ( https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1dQPQ5HDgh3eLRmCVv8Pju2dR6pFlR8N5o17U2JSGXv0/edit?usp=sharing )

Visit us at 1119 Johnson Street, building 12 or via the Zoom link at uulala.org this Sunday, 10:30-11 am for fellowship, and 11-12 noon for the service. If unable to attend, you can view the interactive service slides.

If you will be visiting us and are on Facebook, please mark yourself going in the event

Last Sunday's service recap:
Our service theme last Sunday was 'A Healing Effect' by Rev. Rick Davis.
As the body has the ability to heal wounds given the right conditions, so also might our spirits be healed  by an inner wisdom -- given the right conditions. Be aware that if you fail to transform your pain, you may end up projecting it on others.  There are many paths to healing our spirits. A meditation practice might be just the ticket to get you there, or listening to classical music, or gardening, star gazing, hiking, painting, poetry, prayer, etc. Being UUs, how might we help others to heal without the benefit of traditional prayer? Perhaps we can openly acknowledge their pain and sorrow and be with them to let them know we care. That may not sound like much, but it may be more than enough! View the interactive service slides.
