THE GATHERING DISCUSSION GROUP

The Gathering will meet directly after service this Sunday. Don’t forget to bring a snack. The topic is generosity.
LUNCH BUNCH

Last Sunday we dined at Ruby Slipper. Good food, outside seating. For those not attending the discussion group after service on Sunday, you are invited to join the Lunch Bunch at La Carreta.
RALLY: February 17

Members of the UU congregation are taking part in the 50 50 1 rally to be held on Monday, February 17. We hope you’ll join us and take part in this peaceful activity.
CONSUELA GAINES

Our guest speaker on February 23 is Consuela “Sway” Gaines. Her calling is to help uplift the voices of others — those of the thousands of formerly incarcerated people in Louisiana.
She spent 22 years in prison herself. In Louisiana, a state once called “the world’s prison capital,” incarceration touches the lives of just about everyone. That rings especially true for Black people, the community most impacted by Louisiana’s criminal justice system.
For her, working with Voice of the Experienced (VOTE) doesn’t feel like work: “It’s my passion. It’s my dream, and it’s what I love doing,” she says.
She prides herself on being a voice for incarcerated women who’ve been silenced by fear of repercussions for speaking up and out. She dreams of opening transitional houses for justice-involved people.
Her awards, affiliations and accomplishments are too numerous to list here.
Good newsletter!
Hello you UUers. Thanks, Mary, for this newsletter…an effort I know we all appreciate. Looking forward to hearing “Sway” again. See y’all Sunday. ❤️
